Prisoners Dilemma
August 21, 2009

Two suspects are arrested by the police. The police have insufficient evidence for a conviction, and, having separated both prisoners, visit each of them to offer the same deal. If one testifies (defects) for the prosecution against the other and the other remains silent, the betrayer goes free and the silent accomplice receives the full 10-year sentence. If both remain silent, both prisoners are sentenced to only six months in jail for a minor charge. If each betrays the other, each receives a five year-sentence. Each prisoner must choose to betray the other or to remain silent. Each one is assured that the other would not know about the betrayal before the end of the investigation. How should the prisoners act?

On Monday, 17th August ‘09, the performance of the fellows in the IT test was evaluated. The performance was not good in this test compared to the earlier one. This was mainly because of the lack of practice. All the fellows agreed to this point and they decided to overcome this problem.
Leadership Activity on the eve of Independence Day….

Importance of Plantation
Deforestation is an alarming trend and environmental threat which is not reversible. People are not aware that there are several solutions to this issue. The easiest way of addressing this problem is for every individual to plant a tree for himself.
Keeping this in mind, Deshpande Foundation fellows Somangouda and Shashank decided to encourage people near Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Paraswadi, to plant trees on the eve of Independence Day. They selected this place because it attracts a lot of people. In order to make people understand the importance of plants and trees, Somangouda and Shashank went to that temple, and facilitated a tree-planting activity. The process took four days and nearly 50 people participated. They made people realize how trees help them lead a healthy life. The people who participated in the activity assured Somangouda and Shashank that they will take care of the trees and will also plant as many as they can in the future.
Somangouda and Shashank want to continue this type of activity in the future in the Sandbox area targeted by the Deshpande Foundation. They believe that this will lead to an overall pollution-free environment and healthy life for the people involved.

There was one on one evaluation yesterday. This was helpful for me to improve myself. This made me to realise where I am lagging behind, and how I can over come my backdraws. During afternoon session, I learnt about Microsoft excel.

Time…….

Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can’t buy more hours. Scientists can’t invent new minutes. And you can’t save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you’ve wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow……..
